2023 Honda Pilot
Completely redesigned for the 2023 model year, the family-friendly Honda Pilot is bigger, more versatile, and more powerful than ever. Capable of handling up to eight travelers, the midsize three-row SUV has one of the most comfortable and spacious interiors in a vehicle of this size. Its intuitive infotainment system and impressive list of driver-assistance features cap off an impressive list of amenities, making the 2023 Honda Pilot a must-have SUV.
Trim Levels
The 2023 Honda Pilot is available in five trims: Sport, EX-L, Touring, TrailSport, and Elite. The Pilot is now longer and wider than the outgoing model with its wheelbase and overall length growing by almost 3 inches and its track widening by 1.5 inches. The SUV's styling is boxier and gives it more of an overall rugged appearance. The TrailSport, which is the Pilot's off-roading trim, has an exclusive paint color in Diffused Sky Blue.
Engine
Just like the outgoing model, the 2023 Honda Pilot has the same powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine located under the hood. However, this new generation experiences a 5-horsepower increase over last year and now cranks out 285 horsepower as well as 262 pound-feet of torque. Honda also replaced the old nine-speed automatic transmission with a new 10-speed automatic one. It comes standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available and includes an upgraded rear differential that sends up to 70% of power to the rear axle and 100% of that power to either wheel.
Performance
If you want to hit the off-beaten path, consider the TrailSport since it has a special suspension with a 1-inch lift, all-terrain tires, three steel skid plates, and a special all-wheel-drive system that has a Trail driving mode. Other drivetrain modes include Normal, Econ, Snow, Sport, and Tow, while the upper trim offers Sand in addition to Trail. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Interior
Thanks to the redesign, the Pilot has more space behind the third row with 22.4 cubic feet of space. Folding down the second and third rows expands to a massive 113.7 cubic feet of space. All Pilots have a spacious cargo storage compartment that you can access via a removable cover. A 7-inch touch-screen infotainment and 7-inch digital gauge cluster are standard on the 2023 Pilot, but the upper trims get a larger 9-inch display. The vehicle's latest infotainment interface includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, but those with the larger interface have wireless connectivity.
Safety Features
Honda equips all 2023 Pilots with numerous standard driver-assistance features in what the automaker calls the Honda Sensing suite. Some of these features include adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. The forward-facing camera received an upgrade so it has a wider field of view to detect possible hazards. Honda developed a passenger-side front airbag to cradle the head and reduce severe brain trauma risk. The Pilot also has an available Traffic Jam Assist system, which lets the adaptive cruise control work down to a stop while the Pilot remains centered in its lane.
